Not a good experience

We did not have a good experience with this community. It didn't seem like they had many activities, if any, for their memory care patients, and I felt like most of the time my loved one was just sitting around, unfocused. We ended up moving her to another community, and after the move-out we had some additional difficulties with their billing department. We continued to receive bills for months when she had not been there at all, and it took over a week to get ahold of someone from the community to get it fixed. They never tried to reach us, we had to call until we were able to reach someone.

My mom has been there 7 years and.......

My mom has been there 7 years and I have seen it all. This new management company is the worst. They only care about money and how much they can make. I have been through administrators and the most recent one was absolutely the BEST! Always willing to help and was exceptionally kind. After a covid outbreak, she disappeared like it was her fault. Now they have in charge an uneducated woman whose goal is to make the residents lives miserable. There is no nurse on the property ever. The woman left in charge is not even qualified for that job. Activities? What activities? The food is mediocre at best. Memory care manager is lazy and does nothing but sit in his office and eats. The place is now unkept.....didn't use to be. I want to move my mom.out but I have very limited choices in this area. Please look really hard at the whole picture before moving your loved one in there. I never regretted it until now.

Disappointing

My loved one wasn’t taken care of here. We had to move my loved one out due to our poor experience. I would recommend not putting your loved one in the community. There was a lack of cleanliness in the community as a whole. The staff that they had weren’t as close to pay attention to the residents like I would have liked. My loved one wasn’t dress properly or cleaned properly. There were times that my loved one’s items were missing including clothes. The family had to pay for supplies and weren’t given to my loved one like they should have been. They don’t have enough staff at the community.

Beware of Hidden Charges

It seemed like a nice place when we first moved mom to this business. She was 91 years old with a heart problem and dementia. A short while later, Brookdale's nurse called us to say mom needed to be placed in the care of Hospice Services. Shortly after we contacted Hospice, their nurse told us we had to move mom into a "nursing" facility immediately. The director of Brookdale was very upset about the move and since then, we've received three separate bills totaling $7,017.66 which covered one month (she'd moved out on the 12th so that amount was for 12 days). We contacted the office manager and were told that Brookdale "commonly" charges an extra two weeks fee for the Personal Care in addition to the Basic Rate once a resident moves. We were never advised verbally or written of this additional rate raise. We will gladly show you the bills and a doctor's letter saying she should be moved to a "nursing" facility.

The Worst

Do your research. This place looks nice and the sales people are incredibly friendly. They are understaffed and the medical personnel are not efficient. Staff is rude. Meds are missed. Doctor appointments missed. Admitted to shredding documents. Make sure you do a nationwide search on this company. I would not put anyone in this place.

Our mother is at this facility and I will barely give this facility a #1. However, when our mother first entered Ocean Park it was run by Dr. [Removed] and his wife. We chose this facility because it was personal and the staff was attentive and our mother had good care, was helped when she needed help to eat, exercised, kept clean and dry. Most importantly they treated her like family and she had such good hands on care. However, totally different story now! The place is being remodeled and fixed up, it looks great - but the feeling is cold when you step inside. Staff is not friendly, our mother is left in her room or wheel chair all day, feet are now swollen, she has a chronic UTI, she eats cold food because she can't see to eat. There is no compassion - very understaffed and there is no warmth like before. It is like cattle in a barn. If you are considering this facility I say don't! We are trying to place our mother somewhere else but haven't had much luck however it is coming. We have had to call Ombudsman's several times because of the poor care, we have filed complaints. I don't understand how this place can operate???? In any case it is what it is and do not be fooled if you are looking to place a loved one there. The administrative staff will always tell you "its not their responsibility" really!! Then why are we paying all that money for what should be quality care?? They don't give medications as ordered, there is no communication between staff and/or administration. When something goes wrong or we complain they laugh! Do not consider this facility, they are not worthy of your mother, father or any loved one. Thank you for reading

Didn't have husbands best interests in mind

I took him out of here, it had more to do with the administrators than anything. I think they had had a bad incident in the past and they had someone there that was violent. My husband was trying to get his medications straightened out at the hospital and they were supposed to pick him up and never did. The social worker said that they kept coming up with excuses. We had a meeting with Quail and they said they thought we should send him someplace where they would just basically drug him up so they could take him back. I talked to the doctors at the hospital and they were not willing to do that so that was the day we left Quail. I wouldn't recommend them at all, they did not have his best interest in mind, they had their convinience and I think it was more the administrator than anyone else, they just wanted him vegetated. Before, I was impressed mostly with the big outside area that they had and they talked a good game but I wouldn't recommend them at all.
