Avalon House on Gerard Court

I really appreciate you guys helping me find a home in such short timing and with great care. They have very kind and welcoming like home, with an amazing staff.

They are wonderful, caring, kind , attentive and always very friendly. Room sizes like a normal medium size bedroom in a home. My mom has her win bath but others share a large bathroom. Max of 8 residents

We love Avalon House. The caregivers are sweet, compassionate, professional, gentle, and kind with my uncle. They seem to know his needs before they arise. My uncle enjoys sweet treats which the home is sure to put on the grocery list. This is one example of how they personalize care for their clients. When I have visited during mealtimes, the food looks really good. My uncle is on a special diet, and they accommodate that. The house is very clean, and it never smells of any bad odors. I do not know how they manage that. We are very happy we found Avalon House.

A quality that stands out about Avalon House on Dominion Crest is that the staff is very attentive and caring to Mom.

5 for all at Dominion Crest. We could not have asked for anything better. We started off in a different home that did not work out after only 2 weeks. My mom had to be moved but the move worked out well to Dominion Crest. The home was beautiful, very clean and organized. The care givers were very kind and thoughtful and took great care of my mother. I liked how gentle they were with her.

We cannot express our complete joy and hippieness that our mother received at the Avalon House at Cawdor Court. Mom was there for over 5 years and the total care and attention including the staff's friendship for life was outstanding! Opal and Noel were with her all five years, and they kept our family at peace with their care and love for her. Keith, Rieta, Mark and Marianna.

I would give a 5 in all categories except for meals and activities. I would give both of those a 3 or 4. I just think the resident, my mother in law, just didn't really enjoy those offerings. But that could have been more on her than the staff.

All of the residents at Avalon have varying stages of memory impairment. My mom fit right in with them. It was nice she was not the only one who had dementia. She passed away recently. The staff were professional, kind, and communicative with me. They, the administrator, and owner were as well. They answered any questions I had. They guided and assured me through this tough thing to watch my mom go through. My mom was diabetic and needed to be on various special diets. They worked with a dietician to ensure she received her 3 home cooked meals a day and any snacks and they were healthy for her. They did not charge me to have her seen by the dietician. It was included if you can believe it. As her dietary needs changed, so did her meals accordingly. Mom loved the food and she could eat. The house and my mom were always very clean. When mom was passing, they were there with her holding her hand and mine. I will never forget their kindness and support for my mom and my family.

I did not see placing my loved one in a facility. We said, "In sickness and in health". It meant I was not capable of caring for my husband in our own home anymore. It was an emotional process for me. I know I am not alone in that whether it means we cannot care for our loved ones in our own homes, or they cannot stay in their own home own their own or with help. That is hard to grapple with. We I found Avalon, it felt like our own home. It is warm, friendly, and immaculate. The residents were also immaculate. I did not smell urine as many of the places I toured did. I knew this was the place for my husband. The residents had varying levels of memory impairment and forgetfulness just like my husband. It felt good knowing he was not the only one. The caregivers, lovely and helpful. He thrived having the same daily routine and eating home cooked meals at a kitchen table with his new family. The office manager and team were always there for me. "A" goes to Avalon!

The words "Thank you" do not do justice for what the owner and the administrator have done for me and my family but, especially for me. They held my hand every step of the way, responded quickly to my calls and emails with my questions and concerns. They know better then anyone else that this journey is not an easy one to take alone. I have been the primary person for my husband since his stroke in 2019. The team has given me the opportunity to start taking care of myself but most importantly they give exceptional care to my husband. The caregivers at the Avalon House are 2 very special ladies who treat my husband with dignity, care, concern, and respect. Once again, my family and I are forever grateful for the care given to my husband of 40 years.

Our family truly was blessed to find Avalon House. Thank God we moved Dad to Avalon House! While the lockdowns were hard on everyone, I was so thankful that he was in a safe place. In the four years Dad was with Avalon, never once did I worry about his care and well-being. If he couldn’t live independently because of his physical limitations, at least he lived where the staff truly cared about him. The staff are compassionate, patient, & loving individuals. One staff went above & beyond & supported my family as much as he supported my dad. They genuine care about those in their care. You have to be a truly special person, with a wonderful heart, to make the kind of difference in peoples’ lives that the staff at Avalon do.

My husband has resided at the Avalon House on Woodland Drive for nearly 3 months now. His health is poor but his care is wonderful. All the care team are both loving and skilled. He is always kept comfortable, clean and well-fed. The Med-Tech makes absolutely sure that instructions from his medical care team are followed to the letter. The decision to put a loved one in a nursing home is never easy, but it is made easier by this very warm environment. And there is often laughter in the house, which adds to the good energy. I thank them all from the bottom of my heart.

My mom turned 101 today. When I arrived with offerings of a cake, flowers, card and balloon it was dwarfed by what Avalon House was laying out to celebrate! Expect no less - the team at High Street have given my mother exceptional, warm attention for nearly ten years. Even as her needs multiply she is cared for with unfailing support. I'm so grateful!

Our family has been very satisfied with the Avalon House on Dominion Crest. They are able to provide individualized are that is exceptional. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would most definitely recommend this community to other families who are looking for a place for their loved ones.

My mother was a resident of Avalon on Woodland Drive from 2020 until her death in September 2023. I am forever grateful to the staff for the amazing and compassionate care she received throughout her time there and especially at the end. I could not have asked for a better situation. They really knew my mother. She needed help with all aspects of life and the team treated her with dignity and respect. She had her own room, she was well fed, always had clean clothes and was well groomed. She had the same main caregiver for all three+ years. The common areas were always clean and organized. I had looked at a lot of options prior to landing on Avalon, I liked the care philosophy and the cost compared to other private homes in the Northern Virginia area was incredibly reasonable. The team at Avalon made my mother's last years as good as they could be with Alzheimer's. Thank you for everything.

Our mother, who has dementia and requires 24-hour care, has been a resident for more than 3 years. The staff are like family members to her and we have found it to be a comfortable fit. Other than a bit need of updating, this home provides everything we could hope for.

It was a journey to find the right fit for my father with Alzheimer’s. He was diagnosed at a young age which made it tough to find a place that could handle his needs. He was still strong and mobile which required extra attention. Before finding Avalon, we tried a few hotel style homes who weren't able to care for him. We then found Avalon, a small community. The communication with the caregivers and front office was great. They intimately knew residents and my dad was able to get personalized attention. It made a huge difference in his quality of life, and ours too, knowing he was in good hands. Even though my dad could be a handful, they didn’t give up when the going got tough as others had. It can be unpredictable and quite draining. As I cared for him myself at one point, I know the immense level of dedication that it took and will be forever grateful to the Avalon team. They kept me informed of things I needed to be informed of, but the burden of caring for him to themselves.

After looking at several large facilities, we were very pleased to find the small, home-like setting at Avalon where my mom is treated like a family member instead of a patient. Our mom has dementia and needs help with walking, meals, bathing, and medication. In her 3+ years at Avalon she has been well taken care of. We have found the staff to be caring and attentive. The administrative team has been very good with updates and communication, especially during COVID. We really like that all residents are together throughout the day, from meals to activities to watching TV. While the home is a little dated and could use some updating and painting, it is always clean and safe. We’ve had a very good experience and would recommend Avalon to other families.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the staff at Avalon 6 . I recently transferred a client from a nursing home facility to Avalon 6. My first interaction was via email in with [name removed]. with her easy and professionalism , I could tell right away she cared . Upon transferring my client , I met [name removed] and the other staff members . I can’t express in words how I immediately felt at easy that my client would feel safe , cared for and loved. Even looking around at other residents , I can tell those little extra special touches , i.e., the home cooked meals , cleanliness, dry well maintained and dignity shown ,that Avalon 6 is a perfect place for your loved ones that need additional care . When my husband's Alzheimer's Disease was rapidly advancing and I was struggling to care for him while working full-time and raising our two adolescent age children, I needed help. A Place for Mom provided the contact information to Avalon Homes and I was immediately in touch with [name removed] and [name removed] who offered us a room available in a private home. The hardest thing for me to do was to be separated from my husband. [name removed] assurred me that I could visit as often as possible and we set up his room with furniture from home. My husband is currently in a home 15 minutes away from where we live, we can visit daily and enjoy time together in a comfortable, loving home. The care givers are amazing and have provided emotional support to us as well. They love my husband, provide excellent care, and reach me immediately if anything changes with his health. They love our whole family! There is no beter place for memory care!
