Some good, some bad

Hiring part time contractor nurses to keep care costs down yielded Covid on to the 3rd floor nursing wards. There was no protocol for these individuals to ensure that the virus did not come into the building. Many loved ones died. My mother spent a long time in Shore Memorial Hospital and VERY NEARLY died. Sept 18 2021 AL had one unvaccinated staff person test positive this past week. How the heck does this happen??? This on the new admin's watch. The capital improvements are beautiful by the way (yes, that's sarcasm).

Care during Covid

I feel that when covid came my mother did not get the amount of care she needed. Yes you kept her safe but, because of the lockdown and quarantine, she needed more help and because I could not see her I didn’t know. In turn she went down hill and ended up in a hospice situation. Once in hospice, we assumed she would get more care than she did, (and she did too, that is why she chose to live there in the first place, thinking she would be cared for when this time came) and because we could not help care for her because of covid, we had to hire outside people to get the care required. My family and my mother felt it was misrepresented.

We would not recommend this community at first

This community was quite expensive, and they food they served had extremely to much salt in it. The staff was all nice but we felt they just never really paid much attention to our loved one. The activities were good, they kept the residents busy. The rooms were good except they did not have an easy chair in the room. There was only a bed and a stationary chair, we felt for the money we were paying they could have a recliner.

Thefts

So, finally the thief or thieves have been caught! It’s about time, especially after you denied this was happening for a few years, and made the aged victims feel like idiots! Like they were imagining it!!! How demeaning!!! I sure hope you are personally visiting each one of them to apologize and do everything possible to recover their valuables. Finally get security cameras in the hallways?

My experience with Pitman Manor was disappointing but my experience with a place for mom was helpful and supportive

We originally picked Pitman Manor because of its excellent reputation And closeness to our home. My mother was there one month and we were very disappointed in the care, administration and general atmosphere of the facility. The staff and administrators were surprisingly cold and uncaring.[name removed] was our contact at a Place for Mom. She was incredible helpful and supportive during a very difficult time. When it became clear my mother could not stay at pitman Manor she was able to find alternatives and provide support quickly.

My Mom was not taken care of properly

The staff was not very nice.. My mom has difficulty breathing. She had Alzheimer's And wasn't able to care for herself. They left her sitting up in a chair for a very long time. She was slouched over which can cut off your breathing. I asked a nurse if she could lay her on the bed instead. She complainedThe head of the floor and they gave me a hard time and treated me as if I had committed a crime. They threatened me and told me thatI won't be able to come there if I don't watch out. All I did was ask the nurse if she could put her in the bed.

SHAME ON THE SHORES

My opinion of The Shores was validated after reading some of the reviews. To know that they have been short staffed since Jan 2017 SHAME ON THEM!!! To charge the price they charge and not provide the service they say because they are understaffed SHAME ON THEM!! For the price you have to pay and the service they say you will receive for that price could not be further from the truth!! The residents/patients do not receive the proper care that they are paying for. The nurses are good, PT good, but another VERY important department which is definitely understaffed and unprofessional are the Aids. No one should have to lay in their own mess because the aids can not get to them in time because they are understaffed. SHAME ON THEM!!! No aid should have to rush the elderly people that they are responsible for taking care of because The Shores is understaffed. SHAME ON THEM!! For the Shores not figuring out the solution to this problem since Jan2017 to present SHAME ON THEM!!!

RETHINK!!

BEWARE!!! Please do your research in this place before bringing your loved ones here. Unfortunately, for my friend she has lost over $[removed] to this place and every year the rates are well above 5-6% or more. This place steals from these elderly people. If these prices are starting over $3000 or depends on how much you pay upfront. Regardless, they take a percentage or all which happened to my friend. If you do not stay on top of monthly bills you get surprises without invoices. Bristol Glen "BRISTOL GLEN STEALING AT ITS BEST!" Please, please, please, read, read, read, these contracts. It can or will sneak up on you and eventually you will have no choice but to give this place full access to your retirement funds leaving you "BROKE." Benevolent fund they have to help but they take full access of your fund BUT keep in mind meds, any personal items, medical, are "NOT COVERED!" You will probably get a measly range of $80-90 MONTHLY!! RETHINK. Rest review on [removed]

Be very aware when you are looking for a place for your loved one

After years of caring for my mother in and out of AL, hospitals, rehab, my mother now needs LTC. Be very careful when you research facilities on the CMS website. 5 stars means nothing, but it is a start. Since I already had experience, my tour of this facility was looking into the real things that matter. I realize my need was over the holidays, but it took me 10 days to reach anyone who could provide information and schedule an appt. The front desk did not have my name and appt. When the person came to greet me, she told me I could only peek in the rooms, no one from dietary was available and had no information about the ratio of nurses to patients, aides to patients. I am vetting them on how and often rooms are cleaned, is food processed or fresh, and I like to engage actual patients to get their opinion on their care. What I was able to see were large rooms that gave a level of privacy. I want to see the bathrooms to vet the level of cleanliness. Transparancy!

Not for dementia patients

They state they can care for dementia patients and they cannot, The staff is not properly trained, Dementia patient have better care in nursing homes where they are trained properly or home with 24 hr care.

Made a Difficult Time Much Harder

I would not recommend them to others. There was a lack of communication in regards to care for my loved one. The people who were in charge were difficult to talk with. The nurses and aides were fantastic to talk with and helpful.

dont do it

My father broke his leg while on vacation and had to go into rehab for a short time until I could get him home. this was the worst experience for care that I have ever seen. They made him wear briefs when he was not incontinent because they were under staffed and did not want to be bothered with him. He was fully self sufficient prior to breaking his leg, they made him incontinent due to the ability to assist him when needed. I heard wonderful things about this facility years ago, I must say that I do believe they had a hand in his passing too soon. The physical therapy staff was very good all other care was horrible. I would not recommend this facility to anyone

Stay Away from Wesley Manor

We put our parents at Wesley Manor around a year and half ago. We hoped that having them live together in an assisted living facility would provide better overall care for them. Even though it was expensive going in, the facility is close to our house and appeared beautiful. We were sold a bill of goods regarding the high level of care, cleanliness, great food and committment to the welfare of the tenants. None of this was true. The care level is below negligent, the cleaning and maintenance of the rooms is sub-par and the food is mediocre. However, the worst sin is the ratio of care givers to patients. It started off OK. However, they put new roofs on the buildings and the way that they recouped the money was by reducing the number of staff. They now have the caregivers cooking and serving the meals, cleaning the dining room and doing other maintenance functions. This has drastically reduced the time that they have with the tenants. The monthly cost has increased by over 40% in the last year because of some mysterious equation that they have for levels of care. We now pay over $21,000 a month for the two of them. If we had to do it over again, we would stay away from Wesley Manor.

Big Mistake

One star is too high. I have been dealing with their upper "management" on multiple issues for months. Nothing but stalling, obfuscation, incompetence, deception, and anything else to protect their interests. Won't answer simple questions. Worst years of my parents lives - Dad had to have a toe amputated. Thermostats in apartment don't work - mostly too cold but sometimes too hot. Very uncomfortable - difficult to sleep. This problem has existed for several years - they have told me twice in the last three months that the system is working properly but it still isn't. Paying over $1000 per pill a year for them to dispense medication. Check everything they say - I find them very untrustworthy. Former employees have described the management as "unethical hypocrites".

Bad Management

I have had a relative at Collingswood Manor for 2 years. It has been a total nightmare. I have to nag the staff constantly to get them to provide even the most basic care. The management in particular is uncaring and rude. Their main practice of healthcare consists of keeping the residents doped up on strong opiate medications. I feel sorry for residents that do not have relatives to act as advocates for them at this unsatisfactory and uncaring facility. If you love your elder relative, you would never, ever house them at Collingswood Manor.

Avoid at all costs

Having had my Father at this facility, I would say as an apartment for seniors that can drive and provide for their own meals, this is OK but their have been many issues with people coming into the apartments unannounced or when no one is there and things have gone missing. I would suggest you query the Ocean City Police Department before you commit to this facility. If your family member requires meals, they are mediocre at best and dietary restrictions are not followed adequately. If your family member ends up on the 3rd floor for Nursing care, you should move them out immediately. There care my Father experienced there was so horrid (unshaven, unbathed, soiled clothing and bed) it borders on elder abuse.
