Presbyterian facility but no rooms available at the time

While I was touring this facility, the staff let me know right away that they, unfortunately, did not have any rooms available. This community is Presbyterian and they will be doing some remodeling in the future. All of the residents we saw were really nice and they liked it here. It’s a very clean community and kept up with well. I would recommend other families to tour this facility.

Northwoods comfort

My mom loves it. The people are friendly. The decorating is like a northwoods lodge. Many comfortable places for folks to sit and visit with each other.

This community was our first choice when we were looking. This community, however does not offer skilled nursing. The staff were very nice and the food we tried was good.

A nice place

This community was our second choice. It reminds me of a really nice resort. They have an outdoor garden area for the memory care residents. They have lap pools. This community as well as some of the activities seem to be geared towards independent living. They have five levels of care and there is a waiting list to move into the different levels. The apartments were not as nice as at the community we chose.

A great place

This community felt like a warm friendly place. They offer independent living in a separate area from assisted living and memory care. The community is clean. The staff were very helpful and kind. This community did not have an opening when we toured it.

More confusing layout

It seemed like a nice place, the people were nice too but it seemed a little bigger and more complex, they buildings were all kind of linked together and my dad wasn't comfortable with that layout.

We are still exploring this with Mom. As the weeks go by she gets more open to making a change. The last epidural was less effective. We will try to get her to the Director to look. We are leaning this direction. We believe she will like it.

Got Too Expensive

Maranatha is part of the Presbyterian organization. My mother-in-law used to live there. It was okay but it got real expensive and it was not very modern. The care was good.

Our experience

While my loved one was here in assisted living I felt that we had more interaction with the staff and director and were able to get more information and communication from them. Since my loved one was in assisted living there was more going on compared to where she is at now. My loved one did end up needing more care than they were able to provide which is why we left.

Happy Here

Mom has lived here for 3 years and then she needed memory care and they had no rooms at the time so we placed here elsewhere for a month and something came up now we are moving her back. The staff here is attentive and helpful to mom. The food here is good and they get 3 meals a day. It was always clean. I would recommend this community.

After touring this facility, we found it to be nice enough. The facility seemed well maintained and the staff were friendly, but the facility seemed a bit dreary, so I did not care too much for it. Overall, it was fairly okay.

Interesting Experiences

They are very highly rated. My father had feeding tube in through his nose and down through his stomach while he lived there. He hated it, so he actually ripped it out. One of the nurses there tried to put it back in, and in doing that she ruptured a blood vessel. We have had some interesting experiences. He did go back to Eagle Crest, and the staff made sure that he was made more aware that he couldn't do that.

Not For Us

They had grand everything, but my mom felt that the residents were quite uppity and snotty. Everything was organized and expensive. They have a round barn that they have turned into an activity center, and that is really their shtick. They are nice, but not for us.

No Room in Memory Care

This place starts out with independent living and then they have assisted living and a waiting list for memory care. The lady over there said they have no opening but she said they've had people before in assisted living who need to move to memory care and they just don't have the space so they sent them to Glen Oaks and they've gotten great feedback about them so that's how I found Glen Oaks which is where I moved my wife. To be honest I wasn't that impressed with Walnut Ridge itself. It wasn't my least favorite but they were just sort of darkly decorated and I wouldn't have wanted to live there, personally.

Meal variety but actual cost isn't clear

I liked the lady I spoke with, it's very nice looking and one of the real pros is that it offers a choice at meal time. My husband has turned into a very picky eater, he didn't use to be, so to keep him from eating just a hamburger every day for meals is great. I think just the fact that they offer a choice at dinner is a plus. I haven't been able to figure out exactly what they're going to charge yet. I've talked to them and they have a kind of confusing range of prices. You're not really going to know what they're going to charge him until he meets with a nurse and she can evaluate him and then it may change depending on how he is when he moves in, it's also expensive so I'm not sure.

Not good for more "advanced" memory loss

This was okay... he was jsut asked to leave because he needed more care than they could provide. I don't really think his care needs escalated, he was the same as when he went in but they just said they couldn't take care of him.
