The previous review is inaccurate. The Round Barn was never used for resident activities. It has always been either a commercial enterprise or a vacant building. I have a family member who has been at Farmstead for quite a few years. It has gotten worse with time, with constant staffing changes. There is no one available after hours, so residents are often trying to help each other when someone falls. Now the 2 parking lots and entrances have been torn up for expansion of the lots, mostly to accommodate the commercial business. Parking is now on the streets, a block or more from the entrance. The frailer residents are not able to navigate the exit which is muddy and very uneven. Cars are not allowed to go there. The residents are isolated. There was no forewarning of this. The cost of this residence is exorbitant. Some residents stay there simply because their relatives live nearby. Recent renovations have eliminated all traces of elegance, striving instead to look like a farm. Security is lax. The annual resident survey did not happen.

They seem to have a lot of residents per aide

The difference in price levels gets quite large from the bottom to the top. We had a broken item, and they didn't report it, and we are having a tough time getting reimbursed for that. They seem to have a lot of residents per aide, it seems like there aren't enough aides, to do all the work. Their response time suffered because of that, and they didn't seem to have any time to spend with the residents. There were so many issues. The medical people there, aren't very proactive, they didn't take care of symptoms promptly, and that caused greater issues and led to hospitalization. The staff never even let me know that my loved one should go to the E.R. our personal outside nurse is the one who noticed, and had she not stepped in, our loved one very well could have died.

Unfortunately the Memory Care Unit didn't live up to expectations.

[name removed] and the front desk were amazing. [name removed] in the memory care went through my mom's belongings and admitted to it. Made us get a recliner and then said it wasn't good for her. Waste of time and money. Granted mom wasn't the easiest patient but we were accused of bringing alcohol in. She took pictures on her phone of a mess mom made in the bathroom and showed them to people. Didn't follow up on sending monthly report to insurance.

Do not put your loved one here

Not a good experience, they will charge you and not provide the service! State should shut this place down, many falls , uneven floors. Go elsewhere for care. Keep your family member at home with family , these places have no staff your loved one will suffer like mine did! I would’ve never put her in any of these facilities!

Professionalism During Crisis Questionable

My father who was in DH independent living had his lease dramatically terminated immediately when he was found to not be on grounds. He does have ALZ and was schedule to move to memory care at a different facility the following week. DH stated that he was too active to be in their memory care. During the incident, the facility administrator was unprofessional in her emotional response to the situation, demonstrating excessive agitation and anger at my father and our family. My father was in independent living and was not behind locked doors. I live on the west coast and had to get on the next plane out. My brother had to drop everything and get my father. We have their termination letter and lease stating their rights to do this, but something seems very off and very questionable in how the situation was handled.

I would never recommend this facility

I visited 5 separate times and each time the same opinion. The Gables long term care facility is dirty, understaffed and in very much need for updating. It is everything you think an old nursing home would be......hospital feeling and very strong urine odor. I was also told they have trouble keeping staff and are required to lower the number of beds they provide. They have temporary staff fill in and I was not comfortable with that. If they can't find people who want to work there that is very telling to how the facility is ran. Not a place for our dad.

Go Somewhere Else

My grandma was here for almost a year. It was a horrific experience. Medications were not given at the right times and they switched the dosing without communication. When my grandma went on hospice, another family member had to be onsite for two whole days in order to straighten out the medication. We ended up switching her floors because we had consistent problems with the one floor, including the [Removed] when she was moved. The residents that did not have anyone to vouch for them were obviously treated significantly worse. There was a handful of staff were wonderful, but the majority of them were difficult and make it very clear that they did not care.

Not Recommended

Not recommended for long-term care nor rehabilitation. The Staff with good work ethics and professionalism are few and far between. Majority of Staff have poor work ethics and are unprofessional. Don't think they realize the residents are their clients. An example, residents are intimidated or treated poorly when asking for additional help or turning on a call light for help. This is not right nor the care a person deserves. Castle Ridge is not recommended.

Really clean facility, extremely friendly staff. The staff on the Memory Care Floor, are sloppy when it comes to answering questions, they seem to be doing their own thing and bit working as a team, communication is lacking BIG TIME, also looks like everyone just leaves at the end of shift, without talking to the on-coming shift. What also got to me was the backlashing of employees talking about other employees, and their personal lives. I FLATLY refuse to put my family member in a place like this. My family member doesn't need to hear about your boyfriend or other family problems, or your lack of respect for other employees. What else I do not understand is with so many people on a small floor, why the residents have to wait a long time ( 5 or minutes ) for their call light to be answered? I also overheard one resident say they will not answer a light that isn't on their " list "? I was really, very disappoint in the lack of professionalism!!!

Nightmare dressed as a daydream.

Both of my parents lived at Boutwell's until their deaths. Long story short...do not place your loved ones here. My mother was [Removed]. Boutwells did nothing and police did very little to remedy this situation. I now know my father was severely dehydrated because of improper medication use. Hind sight is 20/20. Do your research. Learn from my mistakes. If you sign the DNR clause, Boutwells is obsolved of all responsibility of your loved one's care. Also, they did not do background searches of their caregivers. VERY IMPORTANT to know this. Not enough staffing. Hallways were always empty do caregivers. Place looks great, but was a nightmare. Please do not place your loved one here.

Disgusting

My Grandmother has been living at Waverly Gardens, for a little over eight months now. I have never been so disappointed and disgusted in my life. With how horrible this facility is ran... My family gets calls at least twice a week with notification of a skin breakdown, or a fall. You wonder why she has a skin break down every week ? [removed] Putting all the residents in unsanitary conditions . Another serious problem at this facility is the staff, they are incredibly rude [removed] towards my Grandmother and my family. One time I was there with my whole family visiting my Grandmother and there was a stronger odor then usual [removed]... My grandmother has a doctors order to be walked to and from meals and the staff including the nurses say they are afraid to walker because she may fall... I laugh at that seeing I walk up and down the halls and she walks great for me. The fact they cant even seeing that they can't even fulfill that, what else are they not doing...

STAY AWAY!!

This place is the worst ! [removed] My loved one has been there for 6 months. We get a call which seems to be about every week that she has fallen sometimes it is multiple calls in a week . She has had many skin gashes, bruises and lumps. They look so painful! [removed] My grandmother has been sent home for holidays so impacted that she is hardly able to walk or function. She has lost an incredible amount of weight that isn't due to having Alzhimers [removed] My family has found aids sleeping in her room while they are on duty. My grandmother is often covered in hardend BM when I go to visit her and lips so dry that the little food she has eaten is hardend to her teeth. The staff has almost completely taken away her ability to ambulate as they confine most everybody to a wheel chair. I go visit a couple times a week and have a large family none of are experiences are ever pleasant. The staffing is SO RUDE. When we complained their answer for us was "Do you want her in our facilty"? Don't let the fancy Expensive walls fool you.
