A Place for Mom has scored The William James Group with 7 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 29 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, The William James Group has 170 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4 out of 5.
Overall our loved one says she loves where she is at Oaks at Cedar Shoals, and that is all she needs. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would recommend this community to other families.

Mom likes the residents and the food. She loves her room. Not happy with the bathroom bc it's not set up for her paralysis on the right side. Maybe if a room like hers but laid out opposite in the bathroom becomes available she could swap rooms. She can't or won't use the bathroom except to shower. I never see the nursing staff in her room. She was stuck on the bedside toilet one time when I got there and had been sitting there for 20 minutes waiting on help.

The facility needs updating. In memory care, it doesn't seem like our loved one is getting much more care than he did in assisted living at a different community. Yet it's quite a bit more money. They do have a doctor on call, and there's supposed to be a nurse there 24/7, but it just doesn't seem that much different. It seems like they're struggling with staffing, like all places are right now.

My family member is no longer here at Savannah Court of Lake Oconee. Everything was improving as we were leaving with the addition of a new director.

We had some problems with this community, it had to do with the cost at the end. They made some mistakes when it came to what we were suppose to pay. The communication wasn't always there, when we would call to ask questions sometimes we would not get direct answers. We were never able to get a hold of the people who ran the place, and at one point we have to reach out to cooperate. From what we could see the care services were good, it seemed like our loved one was being well cared for. This community was kept clean, it was a scale up from a nursing home. We enjoyed working with the staff, we had a good rapport with them. This did have activities for the patients, they were always busy doing something, whether it was listening to music, coloring, working on puzzles or crosswords. We did eat there a couple of times and it did seem like they had good portion sizes. The rooms were kept very clean, it never smelled like urine which we obviously could not complain about.

I had a decent tour of this community. The community looked nice, everything appeared to be well maintained. The staff I met was kind, and friendly. My issue was I when I arrived for my tour, the lady that was supposed to give the tour wasn't there. I feel that wasn't very professional, and wasn't the best first impression.

The staff was friendly and helpful. However this facility provides more care than we need at this time and the monthly rate is more than we were considering.

We chose Autumn Cove because of its location and initially when costs were assessed they were high but within reason. Autumn Cove has a reputation of not sticking to the rates they quote. They give the option of paying $12.50 for a small load of laundry with the max of $60 a week, but they charged over $60 for the service. Specific requests regarding care and information have gone unanswered by the staff here. It feels like we are being taken advantage of and I don't like that.

Before placing my parent here, I was told, "We've seen it all and done it all," by the staff at Savannah Court. If this were true I would not have received so many negative phone calls from the staff. If your parent is not a quiet, peaceful person, this is not the place for him.

My honest answer is that Mom did not have a great or even decent experience at Oaks. Her clothing and other valuables were often (over and over) stolen from the workers, who had no accountability as to their theft, by management. In addition, the food they served was really horrible! Many days they served potato chips as a 'vegetable'. The bottom line is that after Mom repeatedly said to me: 'I feel so violated.' (From the ongoing thievery), I chose to move her to Legacy Village, where we have had a much better experience. I feel that the problem originates from the top. The Executive Director at Oaks was always behind locked/closed wood door; completely unavailable and not engaged.

I would tell others we did not have a good experience. They promised a lot of things that they did not follow through on. For instance my loved one has celiac so they told us they would be able to feed our loved one a gluten free diet and that did not happen. Administration was not responsive at all and I think they will say whatever they can to get you in here.

I would want others to know when looking into Gardens of Fayetteville that they say a lot to get you to go there, but it is nothing like what they say. For example, my father has Celiac and he cant have gluten products, they said they could handle that. Then once he moved in they said they don't have gluten free meals. They said they had a lot of activities for residents as well but then they would cancel all the activities. The staff members here were not friendly at all even to our family members, we did not like how they treated him. Overall, we did not have a good experience.

I do have my concerns about this community, and my mother living here. I would say their responsive time, needs to quicker. Also they need to keep me inform on changes the community is going to have. I will be having a meeting with the director to voice my concerns. Hopefully they are willing to work with m, but if not I will have to consider other options.

The last year has not been good with constant staffing and management issues - I definitely would not recommend.

This place is awful. Staff "orders" residents. Mostly Spanish-speaking aides. NO activities for residents. Terrible food. One nurse for 42 residents. Avoid this sub-standard place at all costs! No matter how many times you're told something will be done, it never is. The doctor came in and stayed less than 15 minutes. for all residents. NO chart review whatsoever. I hope the state shuts this place down. It's dangerous!

My aunt recently moved to this facility. They promised her the moon - good food, activities, great care - and have NOT delivered. They are short staffed, food is terrible and she is not being cared for. Staff is rude. Do not fall for their sales tactics.

Biggest mistake I ever made. Place looked great but the care was awful. No RN on duty, would not answer calls or return calls.. Could never get into the facility after 5 or on the weekends Hardly ever had their events that were on calendar. Did not make sure my dad got his meds. The list goes on.

The Director left. The Nurse left. They are always short on staff. All you ever hear is they must meet budget! The kitchen is filthy and the food is poor. They have turnover constantly. This is not a good facility and I recommend not putting your loved one in this place.

I wish I could recommend this community but based on many experiences with my parent living here in the last few months I cannot. A supervisor with experience needs to be on duty 24/7, someone with compassion & a caring attention to details for the residences, esp the memory care residents.
